We count things all day: apples, birds, toys and friends. Let's see some things to count.

Let's start with one mango. Just one! Say it with me: one. Now one more mango makes two. One, two! Let's count three, four and five. Clap once for every star!

Look at all five stars. Count along with your finger: one, two, three, four, five. Now let's keep going. Five stars and one more star makes six. Six! Seven, eight, nine, ten! The ten frame fills up one box at a time.

Here is a picture of the whole number line. Each number is one step after the last. Counting is also a path. One comes first, then two, then three, and so on up to ten.

Counting also tells us how many. Four birds and two birds are six birds altogether! Let's see counting in real life. Ten fingers, ten toes, and ten friends playing a game.
